The fest is located 63 km from Heraklion and is one of the most famous settlements of Minoan Crete. In the XX-XVII centuries BC Phaistos Palace was the political and economic center of the island and only around the XV century has been supplanted in this role by Knossos.

Like the Palace of Knossos, Phaistos Palace, residential, religious and shopping facilities are located around the main yard. From Knossos Phaistos Palace features a larger theater and a Grand staircase.

Here was found the famous Phaistos disk - a circular disk of baked clay with a diameter of 16 cm, Dating from the XVII century BC, on both sides of which are the hieroglyphic signs, arranged in a spiral. Deciphering these signs to produce so far failed.

Near fest is Agia Triada is one of the residences of the Cretan kings. The ruins of the Minoan Palace, considerable fragments of wall frescoes. In this necropolis were found carved vases and sarcophagus with the image of "eating the dead". These items are kept in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion.
