Lagoa dash Network Cidades – double of the lake, which is located in the crater of a massive volcano on the island of são Miguel. Lagoa dash Network Cidades consists of two small lakes connected by a narrow channel. The name of the lake is translated from Portuguese as "lagoon of the seven cities" and this lake is one of the largest reservoirs in the region and one of the most important sources of fresh water in the archipelago.
There is an interesting legend about the origin of this lake. In ancient times there lived an evil king and irritable-a widower with his daughter in the Kingdom, which was on the West sea. The king was fond of alchemy, was a magician, but he lived solely in the interests of his daughter, Antilla, and even forbade her with someone to talk. The Princess was brought up the old nurse after the death of his mother-Queen. As time passed, the Princess has grown up and turned into a beautiful girl. However, the king has limited her movement only the territory of the castle and garden, few could see the girl. The Princess was not afraid of intimidation of his father and with the help of a nurse, ran to walk the local hills and valleys, while her father was sleeping after lunch. During one of her walks she heard the music performed by the young shepherd who played the flute. The Princess was enchanted by the melody and a few weeks later came back to listen again, we got acquainted with a shepherd. Young people love each other and continued to meet secretly. The shepherd ventured to ask the king to marry his daughter, but the king refused and was kicked out of the castle, and her daughter was forbidden to see him. The Princess did not want to incur the wrath of his father, sneaking on to the shepherd and said that they will not be able to meet up. Young people cried, hugging each other, their tears formed two lakes, one green, as the Princess had green eyes and the other blue because this color were the eyes of a shepherd. A small lake got its name, Lagoa Verde (Green lake) and Lagoa Azul (Blue lake).
Today around the lakes are agricultural and uncultivated fields. Water has become undrinkable because of human activities that have caused harm to water quality. Water from the lake is used for recreation, the government is taking all measures to improve water quality.
