Traveling in the Pardubice region, city Predgradie could be ignored, if not majestic castle of Richburg, which is located on its outskirts. The castle dominates the city. For its construction was selected as the hill, where there was a great view of the surroundings. This means that with castle tower it was possible to notice the onset of the enemy, and to reflect it. For greater security, the defenders of the castle were surrounded by deep ditches. Access to the territory of the fortress was carried out through the drawbridge, which has been preserved to our time.
The castle was built in 1325. In those days it was a small Gothic castle with thick walls, which were done by small Windows. The building owner is the representative of the aristocratic family Richboro – as a residential building wanted to see a two-storey mansion with a small patio.
Later the castle was owned by many celebrated masters, close to the Czech crown. Among them was even the famous Czech writer SMIL Flaska.
In 1425 the castle of Richburg after a short siege in the hands of the Hussites, which are very carelessly treated. In General, the castle was often in need of renovations. When he belonged to Waldstein, they built the new Palace in the style of late Gothic. And the Kinsky family in the late eighteenth century it was rebuilt in Baroque style. After the second world war the castle was taken from the rightful owners and gave it to the care home. Now in the fortress of Richburg hosts the mental hospital, but some of the castle premises are open to tourists. You can see the courtyard and historical exhibition, located in the crypt. Unfortunately, to climb a 30-meter tower, which is part of the Palace, will fail.
