On Palace square in the southern part of Toledo is an ancient building of the Archbishop's Palace. The Palace is situated not far from Cathedral of alcalá.

In the 13th century king Alfonso VIII gave the Archbishop Rodrigo Jimenez de Rada few houses, placed opposite the Cathedral of Alcala. Gradually these buildings were completed, modified, and subsequently there arose the Palace became the residence for the archbishops of Toledo.

Archbishop's Palace in Toledo played an important role in the history of both the city and the whole country. In the initial stages of construction of the Palace was conceived as a citadel. Today this fact is evidenced by the preserved tower Tenorio, located in the Eastern part of the Palace. For a long time in the walls of the Palace was held the meeting of the Cortes, and military councils. Throughout its long history the Palace was restored several times, resulting in his appearance is a complex mixture of several architectural styles. The building is constructed mainly of stone and brick. The main facade was created under the leadership of Alonso de Covarrubias in the 16th century. The main entrance is located between two pairs of columns made of granite in the form of a large arch. The entablature is decorated with a female figure, bearing the coat of arms of cardinal tavera.

In the late 19th century, the Eastern façade of the building was restored in Gothic styles and subsequently by the architect don Manuel Laredo. At the moment the building is also undergoing restoration.
