Golden channel, which in Czech is called "gold sink", was created in 1505-1520, by decree of the Rosenberg who sponsored and oversaw the basis of a system of ponds that are in the vicinity of Trebon. For centuries in these ponds stocked with carp, without which the Czechs do not think of the Christmas table. The Golden channel, whose length reaches 45 meters, connected local Luznici river and one of the ponds called pond of Norsecore. His channel name is acquired because of its versatility. For the town of třeboň he was indeed Golden. It was used for floating and used his channel to drain water during floods and heavy rains. Through this channel, the pond got fresh water from the river, thus avoiding the stagnation of moisture in reservoirs. The water was saturated with oxygen, so the carp are growing here by leaps and bounds. So, the city grew rich and developed.
The construction of the Golden channel and the development of a unified system of ponds were started by Stepanek Netolicky, who knew all about fishing, and understand what needs to be done to improve conditions for the breeding of carp. On the construction of local reservoirs, canals and dams on the river Luznice rivers also worked Jakub Krčín.
In our time, the Golden channel, as well as an extensive network of ponds around Trebon included in the list of natural monuments of UNESCO. The protected areas around them are of special interest to zoologists, botanists and romantically inclined tourists. Along the Golden channel there are special paths for walking and Cycling.
