The Museum of modern art is a 10-minute drive from the administrative center of Trujillo. The Museum was founded in 2006 by renowned Peruvian artist Gerardo Chavez.
The Museum is located in a modern building surrounded by a large garden with lush vegetation and a small pond with mirror cool the water. Museum visitors are greeted by an exhibition of modern sculpture in the open air. The walls of the Museum, which imitates the laying of limestone, is a reminder of the pre-Hispanic past of Peru.
The Museum building was designed in such a way that its exhibits can be inspected in natural light. The modern and spacious halls of the Museum you can see works by Roberto Matta, Alberto Giacometti, Rufino Tamayo, Paul Klee, also Fernando de Suslo, Fouls, Angela Chavez, Revile and other contemporary artists and sculptors.
In the Museum of modern art has a room that is fully dedicated to the works of Gerardo Chavez. This is more than ten large-format paintings, among which "La procesión de la papa", where the author used the plant pigments and clay. In addition, the Museum collections there are original works by the German artist Paul Klee and the Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti.
June 11, 2011 began a new phase in the history of this young Museum. In this day an agreement was signed according to which the University Privada Antenor Orrego (UPAO) is engaged in the management of the Museum, and Gerardo Chavez is the Director and curator of the Museum.
The Museum has the infrastructure to host major exhibitions and international art Biennale.
