The Settlement Idnakar Photo: The Site Idnakar

A unique monument of culture and life of the Finno-Ugric people were found during excavations in four kilometers from the city of Glazov, in the centre Chepetsk lands of the Udmurt Republic. Medieval settlement Idnakar (9-13 centuries) is located on a high promontory of mount Solder and has an area of more than forty thousand square meters. In August 1960 the Idnakar was included in the list of protected monuments of archeology, history and culture of national importance. For the most valuable exhibits from the excavations was formed historical and cultural Museum-reserve of the same name in the city of Glazov.

In the process of the excavations of the line of fortifications of the ninth century, the remains of ancient dwellings and commercial buildings, as well as a variety of material evidence of the culture and life of the inhabitants of the settlement. Estimated ethnic composition of the population Soldersmoke of the settlement are the ancestors of modern Komi and Udmurts, but the presence of the Volga Bulgars and the old Russian population is not excluded.

The Idnakar" in the Udmurt sounds like "the ancient warrior", creating around the names of many legends and stories from the indigenous population. Nowadays, the Idnakar is a well known trade, advertising and tourism of the Udmurt brand.

A unique archaeological monument of culture of the Finno-Ugric world Idnakar is one of the largest in Prikamye and the only Museum in Udmurtia.
