The Kremsmünster Abbey is a Benedictine monastery located in the foothills of the Alps in Kremsmünster in Upper Austria. Is one of the most ancient monasteries in Austrian territory.
The monastery was founded in 777, Tassilo III, Duke of Bavaria. According to legend, Tassilo founded a monastery on the spot where his son Gunther was attacked by a boar while hunting, causing the young man died.
