Uzhhorod Museum of art is one of the centers of art and culture of the Transcarpathian region. The Museum is housed in a former Uzhgorod Juanita residence urban or regional Chapter. This two-storey building was carried out in different cultural events, meetings and balls. It was here in 1919 it was decided the annexation of Transcarpathia to Czechoslovakia.

Its more than half-century history of the Museum began in 1945, when the interior of the Uzhgorod castle was opened an exhibition of the Zemstvo of the gallery. Over time, the Museum collections, actively recruited from private collections and museums of Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, Odessa, Kharkov, Lvov, require new premises. Therefore, in 1979, the art Museum was transferred from the castle in the spacious premises of the city Juanita where it is located today.

In 1990 the Museum was given the name of the head of the Transcarpathian school of painting - the artist of the USSR, corresponding member of the Academy of arts of the USSR Joseph bokshay.

In the Department of Russian painting of the 19th - 20th century is represented in the works of I. Aivazovsky, O. Kiprensky, I. Shishkin, V. Tropinin. Ukrainian art 17-20 article presents creations by unknown painters, paintings Shevchenko, K. Krutovskogo, A. Murashko and S. Vasilkovsky. A special place in the Museum exhibition dedicated to the works of Transcarpathian masters – F. Manila, Th. Bokshay, E. Kondratovich and G. Gluck. Also in the Museum houses magnificent works by French and Dutch artists of the 17th - 18 century the artistic Pride of the Museum is the largest in Ukraine collection of the regional school of painting, known as the "Zakarpattya".

Today in Uzhgorod art Museum named after I. bokshay there are more than 5000 exhibits.
