Basilica of the Holy virgin, the protector of the disadvantaged, is one of the buildings on the square of the virgin, which is the heart of Valencia and daily attracts a huge number of people. Basilica of the Holy virgin, the protector of the disadvantaged, was built between 1652 and 1667 for years. This Church is characterised by an oval shape, is one of the most important Catholic churches in Valencia. The name of the Basilica was named in honor of the Holy virgin Mary, who is the patroness of the city and is revered by every inhabitant of Valencia.

In the main hall of the Church, which has a round shape, right behind the altar is kept the main relic of the Basilica - a sculpture of the virgin Mary, preserved from ancient times. Beautiful statue, made in the Gothic style, with a slim, long hair framed the face, adorned with beautiful jewels. There is evidence that there was such a tradition – if they buried the poor man, having no relatives, that his coffin from the Church brought this statue, therefore, the virgin accompanied destitute.

In the early 20th century it was decided the expansion and renovation of the building of the Basilica. Was held a project competition, which was won by the architect Vicente Travers, on a plan which the Church building was supposed to have the highest dome among all city buildings. But the civil war in Spain prevented the implementation of the project. Recently questions about the expansion of the building began to rise again authorities and representatives of the Church.
