Historical and archaeological Museum Veliki Preslav is located three kilometers South of the modern town of Preslav. In the IX century Veliki Preslav was the capital of the legendary Bulgarian Kingdom.

Archaeological excavations on the site of the ancient city had become a regular towards the end of the nineteenth century. Archaeologists have done a lot of work to understand that initially the city was divided into two parts: the inner city, which included a full complex of Royal buildings (they were also surrounded by a sturdy stone wall), and the outer city is also surrounded by a ten-meter-high stone wall).

Specialists have studied the ruins of the palaces in the inner city: all buildings were built of very large stones. Among the palatial ruins and was the Grand Palace, otherwise it is called the Throne chamber. Here, archaeologists discovered the remains of columns that were fully intact, as well as plates with all sorts of floral designs that were carved by ancient craftsmen. In the Queen's chamber is also survived floor slabs of marble and porphyry.

The study of foreign cities while stopped on portions of the workshops and homes. Here scientists have discovered for the world the remains of the Golden Church, which otherwise is called the Round Church, it was erected in the X century. The temple is partially preserved to our days: it is a building with an atrium and narthex, luxurious and richly decorated with marble, mosaics and ceramic tiles with patterns of glaze.

Surrounds the Museum pine forest with a gazebo. Nearby is the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, also became a cultural monument.
