Veliko Tarnovo is a city located in Northern Bulgaria on the banks of the Yantra river, one of the oldest settlements in the country. The city has very rich history, the first settlement was founded here in the 4th-3rd century BC, and in the era of the Second Kingdom, it was the capital. In Veliko Tarnovo are many historical and architectural monuments. The historic centre has remained almost unchanged – in the old town is the town of Veliko Turnovo museums. This area has the architecture: buildings as if hanging over the river.

One of the most interesting and picturesque streets of the Old town is a street named after the Russian General Gurko. The most famous our compatriot has become due to the successful operations and victories of his unit during the war of liberation against the Turkish invaders. In 1877 June 25, the city, then known as Tarnovo, was taken by the Russian detachment under the command of Iosif Vladimirovich Gurko almost without resistance from the Turkish soldiers.
