Municipal picture gallery, Vicenza occupies the building of the Palazzo Chiericati, designed by Andrea Palladio in 1550, the year for Girolamo Chiericati. The Grand Palace was finally completed only in the late 17th century, from the original drawings. In 1839, the year the municipality of Vicenza bought the Palazzo in an aristocratic family of Chiericati and put it in a town meeting art. Subsequently, the building was renovated by the architects Bertie and Miglioranza and in 1855, the year it was opened to the public as a Museum.

Today in Palazzo Chiericati is a collection of paintings and sculptures, Bathroom drawings and sketches and Hall of numismatics. An essential core collection of the paintings of the altar are images of the now-defunct Church of San Bartolomeo and the work of Bartolomeo Montagna, Giovanni Balconcillo, CIMA da Conegliano, Giovanni Speranza and Marcello Fogolin. Here you can see seven huge tympanum depicting the glorification of the Venetian rulers of the work of Jacopo Bassano, Francesco Maffei and Giulio Carpioni.

In the 19th century, the Museum collection has been enriched with masterpieces by such artists as Tintoretto, Anton van Dyck, Sebastiano and Marco Ricci, Luca Giordano, Giambattista Tiepolo and Giovanni Battista Piazzetta, transferred to the aristocratic families of the city. The real gem of the collection are 33 picture of Andrea Palladio, who in 1839, the year the Museum bequeathed Gaetano Kicked. Another patron, Neri Pozza, gave to the Museum own collection of sculptures and prints, as well as works from his collection of modern art – paintings by Carlo Carr, Filippo De Pisis, Judy Virgilio, Osvaldo Licini, Ottone Rosalie, etc.

For many years, the Municipal art gallery was expanded not only their funds, but also space. The core of her remained Palazzo Chiericati, and in the 19th century to it on the South side was attached to another building.
