The Burgtheater Photo: Burgtheater

The most famous Schauspielhaus Vienna was built in 1874 on the draft Gottfried Semper and Karl von Hasenauer. The theater building is located on the Boulevard ring of Vienna's Ringstrasse.

In 1945 the theatre was bombed and the building was badly damaged: the only thing that existed then – two lush majestic staircase in the side wings of the building. The wall along the stairs is decorated with busts of playwrights, whose plays are put on in the theater. The ceilings are decorated with frescoes, made by brothers Climte and Franz Match.

The facade of the theater is decorated with a frieze with figures of Bacchus and Ariadne, and above the frieze there is a statue of Apollo. The rich interior foyer is decorated with portraits of famous actors and Actresses.

During the post-war restoration has managed to preserve the original appearance of the auditorium, decorated in gold, red and cream colours. Here fit more than a thousand spectators.
