Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was an Austrian composer, a representative of the classical Viennese school. Was at the origin of the Symphony and string Quartet. He is the author of the melody, which was the basis for the anthem of Germany.

The Haydn house built over 4 years, from 1791 to 1795, with the money he earned performances in England. The composer gave the order to rebuild the old low building, to build on the upper floors. In this house, which served as Haydn hearth twelve years of his life were written by such famous works as "the Creation" and "seasons". The composer himself lived on the second floor of the house, and the lower floor was given to Elespuru who has been copying music by Haydn.

The work on creation of the oratorio "the seasons" is quite affected the health of the composer. After 1806 Haydn was no longer working. It is known that in may 1809, when the composer was already dying, Napoleon, were encamped at the time the vein, being a great lover of the music of Haydn, put the honor guard at his house. After his death the composer left 104 symphonies, Opera 24, 83 Quartet and 52 sonatas. Joseph Haydn was very popular during his lifetime.

Museum in the house of the composer opened in 1889. Among the exhibits of musical notation, portraits, piano and some personal belongings. In the Museum there is a small lounge Brahms, who was a great admirer of Joseph Haydn. This room contains personal belongings, clavichords and furniture. Also, you can see the documents, giving an idea about the last years of his life Brahms in Vienna.

In 2009 the Museum Haydn conducted a large-scale reorganization. In honor of the 200 year anniversary of the death of the composer was recreated "kitchen garden", which existed during the life of Haydn.
