Vienna house of the arts was opened on 9 April 1991 in Vienna. The old building of the Thonet furniture factory, which once produced the famous bentwood chairs, was entirely rebuilt by Hundertwasser in two years. The Museum is located in the area of 4000 square meters. On the first two floors is a permanent exhibition of Hundertwasser, other floors are given over to temporary exhibitions. Among the works of Hundertwasser presents as a significant collection of paintings, graphics, applied art, architectural designs and sketches.

All the building is designed in the typical style of Hundertwasser, with wavy lines and a noticeable lack of right angles. In the interior uses bright colors and glass, giving the space a solar light and a feeling of lightness. As in other projects, the Museum building is planted with many trees, shrubs and other vegetation, which gives not only beauty and comfort, but also enriches with oxygen. It is a house that is totally inconsistent with generally accepted standards and gives visitors a journey into the world of creative architecture.

The Museum has conducted more than 60 international exhibitions since its opening. The implementation was made possible thanks to a team of art historians, Museum Directors and curators around the world.

On the first floor of the Museum has a shop where you can buy unique products created from the original drawings of Hundertwasser. Here you can buy rare books on art, porcelain, posters and various reproductions.

In 2009, the Museum was visited by more than 174000 people.

Just a few steps from the Museum is the famous residential building, also built on sketches by Hundertwasser. This attraction is one of the most famous in Vienna, and the proximity to Vienna house of the arts allows us to enjoy them together.
