The house-Museum of Marc Chagall in Vitebsk is open to the 110th anniversary since the birth of the world famous outstanding avant-garde artist. The opening took place on 6 July 1997. This home is part of the Museum complex in Vitebsk, dedicated to Marc Chagall. The second Museum of Art Center of Marc Chagall. It contains paintings and drawings by Marc Chagall, held exhibitions of works by contemporary artists.
This house on Pokrovskaya street was built by the father of the artist in the early twentieth century. New brick house was built next to the old wood. Earlier in the courtyard there were several wooden buildings, which up to our days, alas, did not survive.
Held in the home of the youth subsequently wrote to Marc Chagall in his autobiography "My life".
The interior of the house was reconstructed by the works of Marc Chagall and archival documents. He supervised the reconstruction of Yuri Chernyak. In the Museum are the original items that belonged to the family of Chagalls in the early XX century, as well as household items of that time.
The Museum exposition shows the family life of the artist. Presents the restored rooms: "Kitchen", "Living room", "Grocery store", "Bathroom boys", "Red room". In the back yard of the house-Museum is a monument to the artist. Here is picturesquely situated old wagon.
Here are about 300 works of Marc Chagall. Every year on his birthday on the 6th of July there is the most unusual holiday, during which heroes Chagall art appear to the visitors in theatrical productions. The holiday is called "At Mark and of Bela".
