Vitebsk regional Museum of Hero of the Soviet Union M. F. Shmyrev was opened on 5 July 1969 in commemoration of the 25th ilitia since the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders.
The Museum exposition tells about the life and work of legendary guerrilla commander of Father minai (Mine Lata Shmyrev). Here are exhibits that demonstrate how at the beginning of the war he organized the first guerrilla groups as partisans flocked under the banners of the brave Father Minaya, was created as the 1st Belorussian partisan brigade, 1st Vitebsk red banner and name of Lenin Komsomol, about how to act in the people's Avengers. The Museum is located in four rooms on a total area of 216 square meters in a historic building, which before the Revolution had taken shelter for the elderly officials. The Museum Fund has more than 7 thousand exhibits.
The Museum has a fascinating collection of models of military equipment since world war II. No less interesting exposition, located in the courtyard of the Museum. It recreates the guerrilla camp during the great Patriotic war: huts, carts, weapons.
The Museum holds interesting exhibitions, lectures, tours for adults and schoolchildren, but also military-Patriotic reconstruction, where everyone can see firsthand how guerrilla action times under the leadership of the famous commander of Father minai.
