Pavlov's house, located in the heart of the city of Volgograd is one of the most important monuments dedicated to a difficult victory in the battle of Stalingrad. This, at first view a very nondescript house became a symbol of heroism, fortitude, and military heroism.

Before the war the building was a four-storey house, which is inhabited by the employees of the regional consumer Union. The house was surrounded by luxury homes signallers and employees of the NKVD, therefore he was considered one of the most prestigious in Stalingrad. The house was built so that it was a flat straight road to the river Volga. And this has played a very important role in the period of the battle of Stalingrad.

In September 1942, during the battle in the square in January, it was decided to turn the residential building in one of the base point, because from here it was possible to fire and observe opponents busy part of the city. The Germans called this house a fortress – it was almost impossible to capture.

In September 1942, the house was fixed reconnaissance group, which consisted of four soldiers. It was headed by Sergeant Yakov Pavlov. After a few days in the house reinforcements arrived under the command of Lieutenant I. Afanasyev and, as senior officer, he was assigned to lead the defense at home. German troops several times during the day attacked Pavlov's house, but each time they had to retreat. Defense of residential buildings was conducted over two months, reflecting the continued attacks of the enemy.

After the war, the square, which was Pavlov's house, called the area of Defence. Near the house was built of a semicircular colonnade. Its author was the architect E. Fialko. In 1965 the project sculptors A. P. Golovanov and Malkova on the front wall of the building was erected the memorial wall is a monument dedicated to the martial heroism of the defenders of Stalingrad.

Pavlov's house is the first building, which was restored after the battle of Stalingrad. Today it is a normal house with a huge memorial wall.
