Museum of the history of Warsaw – the Museum of the history of the city, located in eleven houses in the Old town of Warsaw. The Museum exposition tells about the history of Warsaw from its inception to the present day. Originally created as the Old Museum in Warsaw in 1936 the Museum was a branch of the National Museum of Warsaw. It is located in three houses of the Old town, purchased for the purpose by the city Council.

The beginning of the Second world war interrupted the formation of the Museum collection. In 1941 he was arrested by the curator of the Museum, which promptly died in Auschwitz. The Museum's collection was destroyed during the Warsaw uprising. After the war, the decision of the Municipal Council, the Museum was opened under its current name in eleven buildings of the Old town.

In 1955 the Museum visitors can see the permanent exhibition telling the history of the capital. It was the first such large-scale exhibition devoted to the history of a city. In January of 1965 opened this exhibition entitled "the Seven ages of Warsaw". In subsequent years, some parts have been upgraded.

The collection grew gradually through auctions, donations and gifts. Currently, the Museum contains more than 250,000 objects. Here you can see the subjects of painting, graphics, sculpture, decorative arts, coins, archaeological finds, architectural drawings.

The Museum organizes lessons and competitions for students, participates in all significant cultural events in Warsaw.
