Huge architectural complex – the residence of the bishops – located in the heart of the Old town. This structure was built in 1720-1744 years by the decree of two cardinals – brothers Johann Philipp Franz and Friedrich Carl von schönborn. Construction was led by two architects von Hildebrandt and Welsh background.
But became famous for its unique Residence Grand staircase, designed by architect Balthasar Neumann. The arch over this Baroque staircase adorns the world's largest fresco of the work of the Venetian artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
In the Imperial hall of the Palace – frescoes by Tiepolo on themes from the history of würzburg, including portraits of artists, architects and sculptors who worked in the Palace. Huge Garden hall is decorated with stucco decorations by Antonio Bossi. The room is decorated with Venetian tapestry with the image of the Venetian carnival and decorative panels with paintings of Johann Thalhofer.
