In Pereslavl district, there is one notable object – Pereslavl railway Museum, a private, technical Museum, in which real samples exhibited narrow gauge railway equipment, machinery and various mechanisms of late 19th – early 20th centuries.
At the beginning of 2009, this Museum was the only one on the territory of Russia, which focused only on the narrow gauge equipment.
The Museum occurred in 1991, when the building cooperative "decor" was purchased by Mironov Vadim Vadimovich. Immediately had the idea to open a railroad Museum, and then Vadim and Kira (his wife) Mironovs immediately began to look for the necessary amount of money to achieve their dreams. Initially he acted as a private collection with some limited access to visitors, although there was always the possibility to organize trips on vintage retro train Pereslavl railway.
Since the end of 1998 was the opening of the Museum to the public, although since 2006 the Museum visit was paid. Today, the number of visitors can reach up to 800 people in one day.
In the period between 2002 and 2004, the railway Museum not once was the organizer of the locomotive festivals for a wide range of visitors. In 2002 and 2003, the Museum has actively supported regular service passenger from the village Kupanskoe to Pereslavl. According to 2006 data, to the railroad Museum is 2 miles of paths.
The exhibition presents authentic examples of narrow gauge railway equipment. Most of the exhibits survived only in form, but they have the necessary certificates of memorable monuments of historic machinery. A small number of mechanisms and machines have been restored to a state of maintaining a certain job functions.
Often there are situations when it is required to repair items. If to judge according to the Director of the Museum, soon nearly completed the final acquisition of the collection, and then more attention will be paid to issues of design and presentation of the exhibition.
The Museum collection has four steam locomotive, Dating from the period of production from 1928 to 1955 – they were completely set in working condition, with only a few cars awaiting repairs. These include: the Kolomna locomotive plant, which is now beyond repair, the locomotive plant "Tampella", the engine plant. Karl Marx, the engine plant. Dzerzhinsky in Poland, which today is not yet fully restored.
As for diesel locomotives, we can mention: a vehicle built machine-building plant in 1963, the vehicle restored to the desired state in 2010, the locomotive with reinforced hydraulic transmission, built in 1969, the four-axle vehicle, presented in the form of a self-propelled power plant production plant and Guba self-propelled power plant, in temporary storage in the Museum building and others.
It is important to note that when the railway Museum includes an exhibition of motorcycle and automotive engineering, which was released in the period from 1930 to 1950-ies.
Museum staff participated in the training, but also in the publication of several books and articles published in magazines and Newspapers on the history of development of railway narrow-gauge Railways of the USSR and Russia. In addition, the Museum actively participated in the international conference in 2003, thereby maintaining very close and friendly contacts with foreign and domestic researchers of equipment.
At the Museum you can book a tour that will allow visitors to learn about the history of narrow gauge railway roads, the conventional device of the engine and some other techniques used in the framework of the railway.
