People's square in Zadar was built in the Middle ages and was the center of urban life: it was the headquarters of the city administration. Through the ages, the area changed its name and appearance.

The square is dominated by the town hall, which at the time of the Italian government was destroyed, but was rebuilt in 1934. Currently it is used as a platform for the presentation of various art projects of international level. In another building, located in the town square, was located in the ethnological Department of the National Museum, and currently settled showroom.

In different parts of the area have been preserved buildings of different periods of construction, for example, the ancient Church. Lawrence atrium. In the Eastern part of the square is the Palace of Girardini XV century.
