Khortytsia is the largest island of Ukraine and is located in the middle of the city of Zaporozhye. Since ancient times, the island was a natural fortress and shielded it settled on her tribes. Traces of the ancient settlers of the island he came from: the mounds and statues of stone Scythian times, which represents the complex “Scythian camp”. Also on the island there is a pagan sanctuary.

In the 16th century on the island of Khortytsya was founded the Zaporozhian Sich, which was the fortified camp of the Ukrainian Cossacks, and later became the centre of the Cossack state.

In 1965 there was established the State, and later as a national historical and cultural reserve. Today it has become the largest Museum complex. Khortytsya island will impress everyone with its picturesque cliffs and granite banks. He just speckled with various lakes and gorges. In 2011, on the Dnieper river near the island Khortytsya found the ancient sword of the Carolingian type, which roughly dates from the mid-10th century.
