Aula Carolina — the former Church of St. Catherine's monastery belonging to the order of Augustinian — located in the historic centre of Aachen. The first mention of the construction of a Church on this site dates from the 13th century.

In 1275 monks-the Augustinians, who arrived in the city, were transferred to the use of the old chapel with a small dwelling house. They rebuilt the chapel in the monastery Church. The personal intervention and financial support, and crowned in Aachen Emperor Charles IV the monastery of Saint Catherine by 1351 significantly expanded their holdings. In the big city fire in 1656 buildings of the monastery, including the Aula Carolina, were nearly destroyed.

11 may 1663, was consecrated new, extant building of the Abbey Church, which was erected on the same Foundation. As a result of secularization of the period of the French occupation of St. Catherine's monastery was dissolved, Aula Carolina, and other buildings were used for other purposes. From 1804 to 1903 the building of a former monastery served as quarters for the gymnasium of Emperor Charles. From that time to the present day Aula Carolina was used as a school and town hall for concerts, meetings, exhibitions and other events.

During the Second world war the building was badly damaged by bombing. Only in 1980 it was completely restored and renovated to its former appearance.
