One of the most outstanding monuments of the epoch of the Emperor Charlemagne's chapel, which is known as a Palace and valuable for the architecture of the city that is perhaps the only surviving fragment of the Imperial Palace. It's also worth noting that in this chapel six long centuries there was a major events such as the coronation of the emperors, who ruled the Holy Roman Empire. Today the chapel is one of the important parts of the monument, which is inscribed in the world heritage list of UNESCO.

The Palace chapel appeared simultaneously with the Aachen Palace, whose construction dates back to 792 year. Identifying a strong architectural features of Romanesque buildings, the Church, however, was bright and cozy, even in its stone glory. The traditional octagonal shape of base in plan, symmetry, dome – all this immediately gives in the chapel features of early Byzantine culture. Interesting in this chapel are not only murals and the stories, and execution, but also a real Imperial throne, on which sat the once Charlemagne himself. Brought special marble, on which were performed inlay.

In today's hierarchy of architectural monuments of the ancient times who no doubt became the heyday of Aachen, the chapel of Charlemagne attracts tourists because it and today, there is unprecedented power of the Emperor.
