The Central area of Aachen – a constant meeting place for residents, all kinds of events and the beginning of tourist routes around the city. It is located on the spot where once stood the Imperial Palace, and today it was only a small chapel of Charlemagne, who entered the main complex of the Cathedral of Aachen, Yes East tower city hall – Grausturm.
The name may have come from the phrase "cat yard" – "katzhof", and definitely it is related to the infamous pillar that stood in the square until the end of the 16th century. Were she and other names, but they are not accustomed. The main feature of this square is that it has a specific size: 100 feet long and 40 feet wide that is not just a whim of architects, and the size of the inner court of the Palace, which formerly stood here, and on whose Foundation today stands the town hall.
Catchof is a historical monument and a place for holding all kinds of city events, ranging from sports competitions and ending with the Christmas and Easter fairs. Interestingly, Aachen fair, opening on the eve of Christmas, is one of the most interesting in the country and in Europe in General. In 2006 was held last of all reconstructions, which gave the Aachen area in its present state.
The event that took place in 2009, made the area Catchof even more famous: it was included in the European project called "the Path of Charlemagne" and is included in the routes for the lovers, and the history of the life of this ruler.
