One of the most beautiful churches in Denmark is Aarhus Cathedral, which is located on the Cathedral square. The temple was erected in honor of the patron Saint of sailors – St. Clement, so its full name is the Cathedral of St. Clement.

The history of the Cathedral began in the late twelfth century, when the Bishop of Peder Vognsen took the decision to build the temple. In 1300, the construction of the Cathedral in Romanesque style, was completed. 30 years later in 1330 Cathedral of St. Clement burnt to the ground and in 1449, the Church was rebuilt in the Gothic style.

The temple we see today is one of the largest cathedrals in Denmark: the height of the nave is 96 meters, the height of the tower is 93 meters, inner hall accommodates up to 1,200 parishioners. When you fire a large portion of the interior of the Cathedral burned down, have some frescos, with a total area of 220 sq. m. Among these frescoes are the oldest one - "Windows of Lazarus", Dating back to the year 1300.

Special attention of the visitors in the Church attracts a gilded winged altar, was the author of lübeck sculptor and painter burnt Note (1479). Tombstone executed by Flemish sculptor Thomas Quellinus. Also inside the Cathedral is the largest organ in Denmark (6352 pipe), which was built in 1730.

Aarhus Cathedral is an important historical attraction in Denmark, every year it is visited by many tourists from around the world.
