Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral Photo: the Cathedral of the Transfiguration

Transfiguration Cathedral is a true gem of the city of Abakan. In 1994, the city administration has allocated land for the construction of the Cathedral. The project of the temple, the architect of which was A. V. Krylov, was developed by the Institute of Abakangrajdanproject" under the leadership of chief engineer of the project A. V. Usova. Soon, however, the construction was halted because of a lack of sponsorship. Construction work began only in 1999, when Bishop Vincent held a blessing ceremony and laid in the Foundation of the construction of the first stone Cathedral.

In August 2001, in the Cathedral was held the consecration of the lower Church in honor of the martyrs and new martyrs of Russia. In December of the same year was consecrated the upper Church of the Transfiguration. Because it was never finished iconostasis, the full consecration of the Cathedral was impossible. In 2006, he consecrated the main iconostasis, which by this time was adorned with amazing carvings. In the same year, in the upper Church was attached to the two side chapels: the right altar in the name of the Mother of God "burning Bush" and the left side chapel dedicated to St. Innokenty, Metropolitan of Moscow.

Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral - seven-domed whitewashed outside the temple. The lower temple is used as a baptismal. The total area of the Cathedral is approximately 1637 square meters and it can accommodate up to 1,000 people. Luke.

Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral was huge and very long way of evolution, becoming the main architectural and religious landmark of Abakan.
