In 323 km southwest of Alice springs is situated the national Park "Watarrka", which is one of the major tourist attractions in Central Australia - kings Canyon. The cliffs of the Canyon soar up to 300 meters, and on its bottom flows a small river kings Creek. In one of the parts of the gorge access tourists are banned – it is sacred to the aboriginal tribe "lorita", which for thousands of years were the only inhabitants of these places. And today in the famous "Red Centre" carries thousands of tourists to admire the amazing mountain scenery of the Park. They were not stopped even extreme temperatures, typical of this desert region, in summer the air is often warms up to +40ºC. It can be accessed via the Stuart highway-the Highway leading from Alice springs.
In the Park you can see several species of desert plants, most of which grow around mountain lake "Garden of Eden". There are exotic birds – earthen dove, Chaffinch-Zer, honeyeater, grass Wren and black Buzzard.
As usual in the national parks, in Watarrka" there are many walking trails, designed for different tourists. Beginners should go for a walk around kings Canyon along the river kings Creek on the path that leads to the viewing platform – it offers stunning views of overhanging the river cliffs. For more experienced will fit a 7 km circuit Path encircling the Canyon and leading to the top. To overcome this journey takes about 5 hours. But the most experienced will enjoy the 22 km long trail Giles-track, leading through the Canyon to the town of Kathleen springs. In the tourist center "The Kings Canyon Resort can also enjoy a helicopter tour, a trip by camel or Quad bike.
