A little away from the historic centre of Jihlava in the street furni you can see the Church of St. James, who was regarded as the principal assistant and heavenly guard of miners. The construction of such a temple in the city, famous for its deposits of silver ore, no surprise.

The Church produces a strange impression, as its parts are built in different styles. For example, the main nave of the Gothic tradition, and the tower in Romanesque. The interior is actually reminiscent of Baroque. This can be explained by the fact that the Church was many times subjected to alterations and perfected how could. The Church building was built in the late thirteenth century, the North tower was added in the fourteenth and South – XV. The Church tower is used for different purposes. In the North, which has a height of 63 meters, was located observation point. Several people constantly was on duty there, searched the surrounding area, not to miss accidental fires or attack the enemy, and raised the alarm with the trumpets. This lasted until 1924. The South tower was conceived as the bell tower. It initially made a very high – exceeding 20 meters Northern neighbour. But, when they began to lift the bell, which, according to tradition, had its name, Suzanne, the tower became dangerous lurch. The bell weighed about 7 tons and could just overturn the newly constructed tower. Therefore, the architect decided not to risk it and ordered the demolition of the tower to 54 metres. The bell tower in these days you can hike offers amazing views of the surrounding areas.

Inside the temple you can see the stone baptismal font, decorated with exquisite drawings of the gospel, and a wonderful sculpture of the virgin Mary, mourning Son, made in the fourteenth century.
