Rijksmuseum is a national Museum in Amsterdam, which presents works by Dutch and foreign artists, as well as historical collections.

The Rijksmuseum was founded in the Hague in 1800. The then government decided that the state needed its own Museum on the model of the Louvre. In 1808 the Museum was moved to Amsterdam. Initially it was located in the Royal Palace, then at the Royal Academy of arts and Sciences, and only in 1885 was built for it a separate building. The architectural project is the famous architect pjh cuypers. He is also the author of the building of Central railway station in Amsterdam, which is very similar to the national Museum in appearance.

In 1906 the building was designed to showcase the famous paintings of Rembrandt's "Night watch". In the beginning of XXI century the building was closed for several years for renovation. He now meets all modern requirements, both from the point of view of safety of exhibits, and from the point of view of the convenience of visitors.

The main place in the Museum devoted to the collection of paintings. Here is a rich collection of paintings of the Golden age of Dutch painting. The centerpiece of the Museum is dedicated to the masterpiece of Rembrandt's "Night watch". Besides, the Museum also houses many other works of Rembrandt. Also the Dutch school is represented by such names as Vermeer and Hals, as well as de Hoch, Walls, Ruisdael, van der Helst, van Scorel and others.

The Museum has a rich collection of decorative arts, including furniture, glassware, clothes, weapons and much more. In the Asian pavilion demonstrates the art of Asia.
