These tapestries were ordered by the Paris court weaver Nicolas Bataille in 1373, and the sketches were created by Dutch artist Jean de Bandolim.

In 1405-1412, the son of Louis I, Louis II of Anjou was attached to the castle's Royal apartments and the chapel. This chapel was called Holy, because it holds one of the relics of the passion of Christ – a fragment of the cross on which Jesus was crucified was the Christ. The relic was acquired by the French king Louis IX the Saint.

At the beginning of the XV century in Angers castle, took refuge young Dauphin Charles, the future king Charles VII of France. Chateau d'angers was able to prove its defensive significance and several centuries later – in the late eighteenth century the thick walls of the castle withstood a long cannon fire during the Grand rebellion.

Then in Angers castle was a military Academy for officers, where, for example, was trained by the great English commander Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, known for his victory over Napoleon Bonaparte at the battle of Waterloo in 1815.

Throughout its history Chateau d'angers was never captured by enemy troops, but he was seriously destroyed during the Second world war – was blown up an ammunition dump.
