Armacao de Pera is a small town in the Algarve. Today it is a very popular place for tourists. The city is located along the coast and attracts those wishing to relax on the sandy beaches, scenic.

The name of the village consists of two parts. The first part is the name of the region of the Pen, which was originally a fishing port, and the second part – "vacation getaway" – a specially equipped boat to fish with the combined system of networks for the fishery. These boats were invented by the Moors. In the municipality there are two cities with the same name, so Armacao de Pera is also called Pêra de Baixo or Lower the Pen, in order to distinguish it from another town, which name – Pera de CIMA, or Top of the Pen.

Before the town became a popular tourist destination, fishing was the only source of income of rural residents in Armacao de Pera for centuries. Sardines and tuna are the most common types of fish pickled and they were transported for sale in other provinces of Portugal. In our days you can see the fishing nets in the sea.

In the XVI century at the shoreline one successful shipowner was built the Fort to protect the town from pirate raids. Inside the Fort there is a small chapel of St. Anthony, built almost simultaneously with the Fort. Currently you can see one of the walls of this ancient Fort with an entrance gate, over which hangs the Royal coat of arms.

Armacao de Pera is especially popular in the summer months when you can enjoy the warmth of the sun and relax on the beautiful beaches.
