Garni gorge, located near the village of Garni, along the Azat river is one of the natural attractions of the Republic of Armenia. Along the Garni gorge is a plateau.
Garni gorge is one of the most popular tourist sites of the country. Primarily gorge attracts attention with its beautiful slopes, consisting of a hexagonal prism. The latter were named "Symphony of stones", as from a distance the rock looks like a huge organ. Unusually correct form basalt columns delight. The pillars look as if they were carved by man and not by nature. To approach the columns very close is not recommended because of frequent rockfalls.
In addition to the stunning scenery of the gorge is also interesting for its historical and architectural attractions. So, on one of the cliffs is an ancient temple built, according to historians, in the first century of our era. The temple was meant to serve the gods of the Greeks. In 301, when Armenia adopted Christianity, the monastery also became a Christian. To date, the Garni temple, despite its long history, has been preserved quite well.
One of the main attractions not only of this region but of the country is the famous monastery of Geghard. The existing complex of Geghard is dated to the XII-XIII century, in the architectural ensemble which includes the chapel of St. Gregory the Illuminator, the Katoghike Church, attached to rock the Narthex, sacristy, cave temple monastery Awasan, etc. Today, the entire monastery complex is considered a world heritage site by UNESCO.
Also very popular among tourists is located near the village of Garni in the river Azat old single-span bridge, built in the XIII art.
