Mount Aragats is the highest mountain of Armenia, which is a remarkable monument of nature. Mount Aragats is a solitary extinct volcano. Central highlands mountains covers an area of about 820 sq. km.

In the prehistoric era volcanic eruption, which was accompanied by a strong explosion destroyed the top of MT. Around the crater, with an irregular shape, flanked by four huge peaks: South - 3879 m, West 4080 m, North - 4090 m East - 3916 m.

As a result of centuries of wind, water, sun and volcanic activity on the slopes of mountains formed deep gorges, the biggest ones are gorge Geghovit and Ambert a depth of 500 m, and wide hollow tubular rocky passages-futurity. In Aragats originates, the many small and large rivers, including the sevjur and Ambert. In the gorge Geghovit you can see the three cascading waterfall with a height of about 100 m.

The mountain was named after the ancient God of death and resurrection Ara. On its slopes are preserved traces of ancient outbuildings and irrigation networks, as well as amazing architectural monuments of the middle ages (Amberd, Dher).

There is a legend associated with the mountain Aragats, according to which St. Gregory the illuminator has ascended to its summit for prayers. At night, the way it illuminated hanging straight from heaven inextinguishable lamp. The legend says that this lamp today and shines at night, but can see only to the initiated.

With mount Aragats have wonderful views of the mountain lake among the green slopes and lonely hills, which gradually transformed into a misty valley of the Arax.
