Prechistenskaya the bell tower is one of the symbols of Astrakhan. Its height is 84, 8 meters, located on the territory of the Astrakhan Kremlin on Prechistenskaya gates. It is visible from any point in the city.

Prechistenskaya gate (XVII century) - the main pass gates of the Kremlin, which links the castle to the White city. At first they were called "Taverns" in connection with nearby drinking house. Hanging in the Tavern hut the icon of the Savior, a gift from Astrakhan Royal governors, was made out of the tavern and hoisted above the main gate of the Kremlin. And "gate Tavern" was renamed "Spassky gate". In the first half of the XVII century, erected over the gate gate Church of the icon of the Mother of God of Kazan (the blessed virgin), and gates are called "Virgin".

In 1710 on the site of the gate Church was erected the first Cathedral bell tower, for the first time in the history of the town – clock. Because of the weakness of the Foundation too high bell tower was destroyed, and was soon dismantled. With the assistance of the famous Astrakhan patron I. A. Wallace (the favourite of Catherine II), in 1809, laid (as reported was found in 1978, marble slab), and in 1813 opened a new bell tower in the style of late classicism. Soon, however, "Pharmaciesbuy" the bell tower began to compare with the leaning tower because of its inclined state due to subsidence.

In 100 years, and it was dismantled, erected an even more ambitious four-tiered bell tower with an electric clock that played "glory" composer Glinka. In 1990, at our Lady of the bell tower, devoid in the 30-ies of the cross and the bells, came back 7-meter cross.
