The capital of Greece Athens is considered the cradle of Greek culture. The city's history is rooted in the distant past, has always attracted tourists. The abundance of ancient attractions and a variety of museums is impressive.

Square Klafthmonos is the Athens city Museum. Its second name "the Museum of Voros-Eftaxias" the Museum was named after its founders Labrose of Eftaxias and Alexandros of Venosa. The Museum is located in two of the most beautiful and oldest buildings of Athens. In 1836-1843 gg one of these buildings is the house number 7 on the street Paparigopoulou - it was the temporary residence of the king of Greece, Otto of Bavaria and his wife Amalia of Oldenburg, therefore it is sometimes called the "old Palace". The second building of the Museum in 1859, was built by the Greek architect Gerasim Metaxas. Now both buildings are connected by a covered corridor. The Museum was founded in 1973 and opened to the public in 1980.

The Museum presents a collection of objects and documents, which introduces visitors to the history of modern Greece, from the 1830s, when the city became the capital of the Greek state, and before the beginning of the 20th century. A huge collection of paintings, prints, sculptures and photographs allows you to go back to Athens from the 19th century and to feel the atmosphere of that time. The Museum reproduced living rooms of the aristocracy, which give a rich insight into the lives of Athenian citizens in that era. Also the exhibition includes well-preserved pieces of furniture belonging to king Otto.

In 1990 the Athens city Museum was awarded the Academy of Athens.
