The temple was in the poorest part of the city. Since it became impossible to contain on modest donations, Tomsk Consistory decided to ascribe to St. Basil's Church to the Cathedral of Peter and Paul. The Zayachy settlement increased rapidly, and by the early 80-ies of the XIX century the Church had overrun all parishioners. As a result, local residents began to collect funds for the construction of a new, larger Church.

The construction of the Church ended in 1903 In September 1904 the Church was consecrated. It is a large cruciform in plan, exposed brick Church built in the Russian revival architectural style.

The temple has four throne. The first altar of the Holy virgin, the second consecrated in honor of St. Prince Alexander Nevsky, the third of the Holy great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon, and the fourth in the honor of Saint Seraphim. The interior of the Cathedral was painted on dry plaster with oil paints in 1918-1928, with the participation of the artist N. Shvarev.

In April 1939, the Church was closed, but not destroyed. Only was the bell tower was demolished and the cross on the dome, and the building was used as a warehouse. The divine services were resumed in January 1944, he was the only active Church in the city, which was the reason for turning it into a Cathedral. In 1993, the temple appeared again the bell tower.
