The hunting Palace of the Grunewald is the oldest in Berlin. Its history dates back to 1542, when the elector Joachim II wished to become the owner of a very small hunting Lodge. The location for the future construction was selected according to the desire and preference of the elector - he was very impressed with the picturesqueness of the lake Grunewaldsee. Soon the order was given for the building of the house in the grove.
Many historians believe that the architect was made by Caspar Theiss. He and his team began work on the project, which were subsequently made substantial additions. After years of construction on the shore of the lake stood a majestic castle, designed in the Renaissance style. Despite the impressive size, Joachim II called the Palace "the House in green forest, after a while the nearest whole area became known as likewise.
In the early eighteenth-century Prussian king Frederick I, who ordered the reconstruction of the castle, as a result, all the original artwork was destroyed. Thanks to the efforts of Martin grünberg style of the building was changed to Baroque. 1800 changed the name of the Palace, he became known as the battle of Grunwald, as the surrounding land.
Once the hunting Palace, Grunewald has survived to the present day, and today is a Museum, consisting not only of the Palace complex, but from a Zoological and ethnographic halls. The castle is located in the place of amazing beauty which impresses every tourist.
