Museum of the history of Pikalyovo alumina refinery exists almost twenty years. The first exhibition devoted to Pikalyovo plant "Alumina" was opened on 5 November 1987. The exhibition was attended by the leaders of the enterprise, its leading experts, labor veterans, representatives of the party, trade Union committees, ordinary residents of the city. The Museum was opened by the Khoren Azarevich Badalyan, the General Director of hero of Socialist labor, which put a lot of effort to make the Museum was opened. The Museum consists of six rooms, in which visitors got acquainted with the photos taken during the construction of the plant, portraits of the best workers and veterans of labour, product samples and technological scheme of processing nepheline raw materials. Work on the organization of the Museum was begun in 1969. In this hard business contributed Tuzhilkin Ivan Mikhailovich, who wrote the first historical reference about Pikalyovo alumina refinery, which is an honorary citizen of the city. In 1985, work on the creation of the Museum was continued, Y. I. Kuzin, head of the Department of technical training. Public Council of the Museum, consisting of employees, gathered a lot of material about the history of factories and shops, including albums, photos, Books of Honor. It is on this basis and was formed in 1987 with the first exhibition.
After that work has begun on the preparation of the permanent exhibition of the Museum. Almost every day the photographer F. A. Semenenko, a knowledgeable expert with extensive experience in the alumina plant was photographing the plant. Thanks to the masterful imagery, through many years, visitors to the Museum can see to learn about the events of those years, the people working here and the results of their work.
During its existence the Museum was visited by many city residents and its guests. Here are pupils, students Volkhov aluminium College, students of the mining Institute. Visited the Museum guests from Japan, Finland, Germany.
In the year of the 50th anniversary of the Victory was organized an exhibition dedicated to the employees of the plant on the war, which was attended by veterans. Some donated photographs and personal belongings. Thus, in Museum collections appeared tunic E. P. Demchenko and tablet pilot V. A. Dolgikh, diplomas, I. S. Okunev and gratitude to P. A. Nesin.
During the preparations for the fortieth anniversary since the first release of Pikalyovo alumina veterans wrote their memories of those days. September 16, 2004, on the eve of the 45th anniversary of the company, opened new exhibition the Pikalyovo alumina refinery – yesterday and today". The company's managers, Union leaders, veterans, representatives of the city administration in the halls of the Museum, got acquainted with the photos of different years, the portraits of the best people of the city and the factory, the award-winning enterprise, household items builders Association, commemorative signs, product samples and Books of Honor.
