Jean Moulin was one of the heroes of world war II, member of the French Resistance and companion of Charles de Gaulle. The main merit of Jean Moulin is that with his help, managed to unite disparate groups underground and form a unified Resistance movement. Before the war, Jean Moulin was appointed prefect of Chartres, in 1943 he was arrested by the Gestapo and died from torture. The Resistance hero was buried in the cemetery of Pere-La-chaise, and in 1964 his remains were moved to the Pantheon, a burial place for distinguished French citizens.

The name of Jean Moulin are streets and schools, University of Lyon-3. In Paris in 1994 the Museum was opened Jean Moulin, also called the Museum of the Liberation of Paris. Jean Moulin devoted a considerable part of the exposition. The second part of the exposition of the Museum tells about the activities of an outstanding military leader during the Second world war - Marshal of France Philippe Leclerc. At the heart of this Museum – two private collections of documents and objects. One of the collections was provided by the Foundation for the memory of Marshal Leclerc, another friend of Jean Moulin Antoinette Sass.

In Bordeaux, the centre Jean Moulin was created much earlier, in 1967. The initiator of its creation was Jacques Chaban-Delmas, a former mayor of Bordeaux, is also a member of the Resistance movement. This center has a national status and is located in a XIX century building. In the center is a Museum of Resistance, deportation and fighting forces of free France, and two of the Museum of decorative arts and the history of Aquitaine.

The Resistance Museum contains exhibits that create a representation of the work of the French underground. It preserves documents, campaign materials (posters), correspondence of members of the Resistance, weapon.
