The Church Christchurch Photo: Church Christchurch

Near the town of Bournemouth on the South-West of the UK there is an ancient Church Christchurch (Church of Christ). The very first Church existed on this place in the year 800 A. D. Then there emerged a small Abbey, and in the eleventh century began the construction of a new Church. This Church is associated with many legends. In particular, it is said that the original Church was began on the hill of St. Catherine, but for one night, all building materials were miraculously transferred to the place where now is the Church. Another legend says that the building is disguised as an ordinary carpenter was attended by Jesus Christ himself, who miraculously lengthened too short-cut timber. After that, the Church was called the Church of Christ. Later the name was transferred to the Abbey and the entire city.

The Church was rebuilt and reconstructed until the mid-sixteenth century. It preserves a wooden carved misericord is a small ledge-seat, on which the monks could sit quietly during the long service. The Abbey was dissolved in 1539, but the Church remained as a parish.

She still is acting in place of the service. In 1999, in honor of the 900-year anniversary of the Abbey in the Church installed a new organ and a stained glass window.
