Chapel of San Fruttuoso is in the area of real Braga. This chapel, built in pre-Romanesque style, is part of the ensemble of religious buildings, which also includes the Royal Church.

The original chapel building was built in the VII century by the Visigoths in the form of a Greek cross. The chapel known as the Chapel of San Fruttuoso di Montelius or Chapel of San Salvador di Montelius. Since 1944, the chapel is classified as a national monument of Portugal.

On the basis of documentary sources, in 560 ad on the site of the chapel was a small Roman Villa and a temple dedicated to Asclepius, the Greek God of healing and medicine. In 656 the Fructuosus, a Christian Saint, who then became Bishop of Bracara, founded the monastery of St. Salvador and ordered the construction of the chapel in which he bequeathed to bury him. In IX-X centuries were carried out reconstruction work. In 1523, Archbishop Diego de Sauce was founded by the Franciscan Capuchin monastery near the chapel of San Fruttuoso, and there is reason to believe that this destroyed the ancient monastery of San Salvador. In 1728, was the reconstruction of the Church of the convent of San Francisco and the chapel of San Fruttuoso, which was annexed to the Church. After reconstruction and many reconstructions in the chapel was possible to get only from the Church itself.

In 1931 began the restoration of the original form of the chapel as it was in the VII century. The chapel is a unique example of buildings in Portugal, built by the Visigoths. Masonry walls made in the form of round arches, which are supported by large pillars. Column decorated with wide decorated border. The inner space of the chapel is divided triple arch in the form of a horseshoe. Spherical dome covered with plaster and painted white. On the granite floor of the chapel are carved the emblems.
