Braga is one of the oldest Christian cities in Europe. Yet Braga called the "Portuguese Rome" due to the large number of temples and religious sites that are in the city. In addition, the city is famous churches.
The Church of Mercy is located in the district of CE, which is included in the district of Braga. The Church was built in 1562, during the reign of Archbishop Bartolomeu DOS Martires. During the XVIII-XIX centuries the appearance of the Church was changed greatly. And, despite the changes in appearance of the Church, she is considered the most significant architectural monument of the Renaissance in Braga. Recent work in the Church were held in 1891, in this form we can see the temple today.
Nave Church is oblong in shape. The facade of the Church is decorated in Italian Renaissance style. The side entrance is decorated with scenes from the life of Christ. These sculptures of the XV century is an excellent example of the works of outstanding masters of the school of sculpture from Coimbra.
Inside the Church is decorated in Baroque style. The Central altar of the XVIII century in Baroque style made of Marcelino de Araujo, a renowned master of the time, and decorated with the image of the Merciful virgin Mary (1774) famous painter Juan Antonio Gonzalez.
