The Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli is located on Corso Vittorio Emanuele in Milan. It was originally built specifically for the storage of the icon, which was attributed miraculous properties. The design of the Church with its cylindrical front dome was designed by architect Ludovico Beretta in 1480-1490-m years. However, the most outstanding elements of the building is elaborately decorated with marble bas-reliefs on the facade and the portico were designed by architect and sculptor Giovanni Antonio Amadeo and made with the help of many other sculptors. Just on the decoration of the Church inside and out worked by 16 artists, among whom was the nephew of Antonio Della Porta from Osteno – Tamarino. Such an abundance of sculptural details reminiscent of the Renaissance appearance of the Certosa di Pavia monastery.
Once in the Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli was exciting to see the painting "St. Nicholas of Bari with two children in front of the Virgin Mary" brush Moretto, now preserved in the Pinacoteca of Tosio of Martinengo. In the Church were two splendid murals Graciosa Cossali – "Baptism of Christ" and "the adoration of the Magi".
The interior of Santa Maria dei Miracoli was severely damaged during the bombing of Brescia during the Second World war – it is interesting that the airstrike was a mistake, instead of a Church was supposed to bomb located near the Bank of Italy. The external appearance of the Church was not damaged – the beautiful facade was protected by wooden forests (today there are several photographs framed by the scaffolding of the temple of those years). Subsequently, the interior of the building was carefully restored, and when, after the end of World war II, Santa Maria dei Miracoli saw Winston Churchill, he called this Church one of the most beautiful that he had seen in life.
