City Botanic gardens Brisbane is located on the banks of the Brisbane river close to downtown. The Gardens area is limited to the river Brisbane river on one side, the Parliament building and other campus Queensland University of Technology with a third. Place for them was defined by Charles Fraser in 1828, the gardens, spread over an area of 20 hectares, appeared in 1855. Once the Botanical gardens were called "Royal Park" and the cottage caretaker 1905, the building today houses a café. Some of the oldest trees planted in the Gardens were the first trees of their own species planted in Australia: the first superintendent of the Gardens, Walter hill, was fascinated by the experiments on the acclimatization of plants. In his honor was named a local fountain.
The proximity to the river has served an ill service to the Gardens – from 1870 to 2011 their territory 9 times suffered from floods. Part of the collection of plants by the decision of the City Council of Brisbane was moved to the new Botanical gardens at mount coot-TA.
Today in the Botanical Gardens you can see many rare and unusual plants – collection of cycads, palms, Fig trees and bamboo. Along the river the mangroves. The Gardens are within walking distance, and you can take a bike. Here I like to relax during the lunch break, employees of a nearby business centre, and on weekends often celebrate weddings. There is on-site Gardens the special stage on which to perform local musical groups and activities, such as the annual Christmas carols. To services of visitors – trips with guides, picnic areas and restaurants.
