Gallery of Modern Art Queensland – part of the Cultural centre of Queensland on the South Bank of the Brisbane river. Here you can see most of the works of contemporary artists from the collection of the Queensland Art gallery and held every 3 years, the exhibition of contemporary art of the Asia-Pacific region.

The gallery was opened on 2 December 2006. This is the second and long-awaited building of the Queensland Art gallery, which houses the largest collection of contemporary art in Australia – more than 13 thousand works. Strangely enough, but the gallery building and is the first Australian cinema, built to showcase the ancient movies. Total area – more than 25 thousand sq. m. and the biggest exposure is located at 1100 m?.

Art gallery was founded in 1895 as the national Art gallery of Queensland. During the years of its history, the gallery with the collections housed in various buildings, until in 1982 not received a permanent "residence." Since the opening of the collection and exhibition grew, increased the flow of visitors. To satisfy public needs, during the 1990s, the Gallery has conducted extensive research and consultation with leading experts from the art. As a result, it was decided to build the second building is a Modern Art Gallery, opened in 2006 and 150 metres from the main building of the Art gallery.

The main project of the Gallery of Modern Art is held every three years a series of exhibitions Asia Pacific arts, which today became the main national and international cultural event. Received for years of exhibition experience helped to establish the Australian centre of Asia Pacific art. Also, the gallery exhibits works of indigenous Australians – aboriginal and engaged in strengthening relationships with indigenous communities of Queensland. Educational programs for children held at the gallery since 1941, received recognition at the international level. The gallery is regularly removed to distant cities in the state.
