Park of the South Coast, lying on the seat of the international exhibition Brisbane Expo 88 on the South Bank of the Brisbane river, was opened in June 1992. The Park is connected to downtown by a bridge Victoria bridge and the area gardens point bridge, the Goodwill bridge.
The Park consists of areas rain forests and savannas, ponds and beaches, the promenade and a variety of attractions – a Large Gazebo, square, Suncorp, the Nepal Peace Pagoda, the Ferris Wheel, restaurants, shops and fountains. There is also a Conservatory of Queensland.
Park of the South Coast is one of the main cultural venues of Brisbane, on which regular festivals and events of different levels. Each year the Park is visited by about 11 million people!
Originally the South side of the Brisbane river was a meeting place of aboriginal tribes turrbal (turrbal) and yuggera (yuggera), and in the early 1840s, became the site of the first settlement of Europeans. In 1850-ies on this site was based in the business centre of Brisbane, but it was badly damaged during the flood of 1893, and it was decided to move it to North high, riverside. There he is now. The visitors of the Park will be interesting to see the sights. For example, a Large Gazebo (Grand Arbour) is 443 steel columns, entwined with bougainvillea blooming all year. Gazebo stretches 1 kilometer along the banks of the river and serves as a pedestrian walkway. Square Suncorp (Suncorp Piazza) is an open – air amphitheatre at 2158. It often hosts a variety of activities. 60-meter Ferris Wheel was installed in the Park in August 2008 to the 20th anniversary of Expo 88 and 150-year anniversary of the founding of the state of Queensland. On one of the 42 booths in 15 minutes you can admire the panorama of the southern Coast, river Brisbane river and the city centre. The Nepal Peace Pagoda was originally erected on site of Expo 88 and transferred to the Park after the exhibition. Traditional Eastern architecture, art and area for meditation attract many visitors.
Another popular place is the artificial beach area of 2000 sq. m. filled 4000 cubic meters of sand. Sand brought from Moreton Bay, and every year on the beach up to 70 tons of sand. In 1999 and 2001, the beach was awarded as the cleanest beach in Queensland.
