Bursa is one of the most beautiful cities in Turkey and when considered on the subject of interesting attractions that you should pay attention to the famous Green mosque. The building was built in the 15th century when Sultan Mehmed I çelebi and is part of a large complex, which includes also the tomb and madrasa. Work on its construction lasted from 1414 to 1424.
Green mosque looks like two domed halls connected to each other. In the centre of the first of them is a marble basin for ablutions, on either side of which are small rooms. The Central hall of the mosque is surmounted by several domes that rest on the walls, interconnected in the form of a drum.
Green mosque is the most ornate mosque in the city. Its facade is made of beautiful white marble, and the prayer hall are decorated with rare green faience. Windows and the portal of the mosque is decorated with carved marble, which is considered the masterpiece of the Ottoman art. All internal walls are constructed with the use of exquisite blue tiles, green, azure, turquoise and blue, interspersed with white letters Arabic characters. Thanks to the color of the interior walls of the mosque and was called Green. Ali bin Haji Tabrizi is one of the artists involved in the decoration of the mosque, was a native of Iran, which influenced the style of its ornament.
Near the mosque is another famous monuments of Bursa Green tomb. It was built for Sultan Mehmed I çelebi. He died in Edirne, but his ashes in exactly forty days moved to Bursa and buried in the place which the Sultan chose to build his tomb. The interior of the mausoleum and sarcophagus installed in the center of the interior of the tomb, decorated with tiles, which are in color and pattern design is very similar to ceramic tiles that adorn the Green mosque. Near the mausoleum are the graves of the nurse of the Sultan, his daughters and one of his sons. From the outside the mausoleum of Mehmed çelebi also trimmed in bright turquoise ceramic tiles.
Green mosque is the most valuable historical monument in the town of Bursa, so every year it is visited by a huge number of travelers from all over the world. Now the mosque is still restoration work to be completed in November 2011.
